We specialize in the various areas of civil litigation, particularly, in the areas of real estate, estates and corporate/commercial litigation practices.

Therefore, we currently have an opening for a seasoned lawyer to join our practice as a Senior Litigation Counsel.

Key Responsibilities (INCLUDED, BUT NOT LIMITED TO):
 
Leadership & Supervision:

  • Provide leadership functions to the litigation department
  • Oversee the performance of junior and intermediate associate lawyers
  • Mentor and coach junior and intermediate associates, offering guidance on case strategy, legal research methodologies, and courtroom advocacy skills
 
Case Management:

  • Oversee the management of litigation matters handled by the department, ensuring that cases are handled efficiently, effectively, and in accordance with client expectations.
  • Review case assignments and allocate resources appropriately to ensure optimal case outcomes and client satisfaction.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on complex litigation matters, providing strategic guidance and support to junior and intermediate associates as needed.
  • Have a carriage of own complex litigation files

Client Relations:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, serving as a trusted advisor and advocate for their legal needs.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients regarding litigation matters, providing regular updates on case developments and addressing any concerns or issues that may arise.
  • Collaborate closely with the Principal Lawyer, the executive team and other practice areas within the firm to identify opportunities for delivering integrated legal solutions to existing and new clients.

Legal Research & Analysis:

  • Stay abreast of developments in case law, legislation, and procedural rules relevant to the firm's litigation practice.
  • Provide guidance and support to junior and intermediate associates on legal research methodologies, case analysis, and the development of legal arguments.
  • Ensure that all work product produced by the litigation department meets the highest standards of quality and accuracy.
 
Professional Development:

  • Design and implement training programs and professional development initiatives to enhance the skills and expertise of junior and intermediate associate lawyers within the litigation department.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and growth, encouraging junior and intermediate associates to take on challenging assignments and expand their legal knowledge.
  • Lead by example, demonstrating a commitment to excellence, integrity, and professionalism in all aspects of legal practice.
 
Supervisions and Evaluation:

  • Conduct regular performance evaluations in collaboration with the HR Manager and provide constructive feedback to facilitate team members' growth and development.
 
Qualifications/Experience/Requirements

  • Good standing with the Law Society of Ontario;
  • 5-10+ Years of Experience working at a law firm that strictly focuses on civil litigation in the areas listed under ‘company description.’
  • In-depth and Strong Knowledge of the Rules of Civil Procedure and the Court of Justice Act, etc.
  • Significant examples of published cases, motions and endorsements and any research work/papers/articles written on legal topics – would be an asset.
  • This will be a full-time position performed on-site at our head office, but there might be occasional availability to work remotely.

Compensation

$120,000.00 - $200,000.00 per year
